“Tehillim of the Chida” refers to a unique way of reciting Psalms as taught by Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai (the Chida).

Instead of following the standard division into chapters, the Psalms are read based on the letters at the beginning of each verse, corresponding to the letters of a person’s name.

For example, someone named Reuven would recite all verses beginning with the letters “R,” “A,” “V,” “U,” “B,” and “N” in that order.
The Chida’s Teachings:

In his introduction to this practice, the Chida writes that reading Tehillim in this manner is a powerful segula (spiritual remedy) to be saved from distress and harm. He explains:
“Reciting the letters of one’s name daily will aid in success, protection, and rescue from sorrow or damage, especially for travelers by land or sea.”

In his work Kaf Achas (Siman 32), the Chida adds another segula:
“A true remedy for all situations is to cultivate genuine humility, give charity according to one’s means, and engage in Torah study for its own sake.”
